MOVE
Movement and Rehabilitation
The Movement and Rehabilitation Centre will be the main home of the Sheffield Children’s Gait and Motion Analysis team, the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy teams, and patients and their families.
It will be based across two floors at the NCCHT and will revolutionise the way Sheffield Children’s provides treatment for children and young people with orthopaedic, rheumatological, neurological and neuromuscular conditions, and cancer.
A range of world leading technology will feature in The Movement and Rehabilitation Centre which will also be available for research and for partnership opportunities alongside NHS care.

Computer Assisted Rehabilitation
Computer Assisted Rehabilitation Environment (C.A.R.E.N)
The C.A.R.E.N system is highly regarded as the world’s most advanced biomechanical lab and no other paediatric facility in the UK has this level of equipment.
It combines advanced data, immersive technology and human movement to help teams learn more about patients’ health and how to improve it.
When it’s not being used for NHS care the C.A.R.E.N will be available for research and partnership opportunities.
Gait and Motion
Our new facility will host a range of state-of-the-art equipment for gait and motion analysis.
This will include new markerless systems which makes treatment quicker and less intrusive for patients, electromyography, a foot pressure platform, in-shoe foot pressures, inertial measurement units and more!
Some of the technology will also be able to be used outside on the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park facilities such as the running track. The flexibility this new technology will provide is an exciting first for the Sheffield Children’s Gait and Motion team who are accredited by the Clinical Movement Analysis Society of UK and Ireland (CMAS) and are a member of the European Society of Movement Analysis in Adults and Children (ESMAC).
Exercise Spaces
The Exercise Space will be used most regularly by patients and professionals working in the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy teams.
It will include a range of equipment for patients to use in a bespoke way during their appointments and will inspire new technologies to support movement and rehabilitation which can be developed in the NCCHT.
