What are child
health technologies?

New technologies such as virtual reality, robotics, artificial intelligence and virtual care are changing our lives.

Together, we will use them to change how we care for children and young people.

Lower limb virtual reality

Noel is a young patient at Sheffield Children’s. He has a rare condition which means he has regular surgeries and physiotherapy to help him walk. Virtual reality has helped change his care and recovery after surgery.

The handsets that are usually used with VR have been turned into legsets for Noel to support with lower limb rehabilitation.

“I have to walk through a street and shoot monsters by looking at them and at the end you get to fight a big monster which has yellow targets on it.

“I don’t realise how far I’m walking because I’m concentrating so much on my score!

“When I wake up for physiotherapy now I feel excited.”
